7 Things You Didn't Know About What Is Success As A Christian

I know you want to be a successful Christian but may be a little bit confused like I used to be because success has been defined to us as being obedient to God. In this article you will come to know seven things you may have never heard of what is success as a Christian

Whether one becomes successful in life or not obedience to God is a normal life to a Christian.

7 Things You Didn't Know About What Is Success As A Christian

The key Scripture for this topic is from Joshua 1:1-9 (NKJV).

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord , it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. No man shall be  able  to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so  I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

The statement, "You will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.", is made by God Himself to Joshua.

Prosperity and success comes from God whether you like it or not. God wanted Joshua to prosper and have good success. What about His will for you and me? God wants you to be successful in life.

I want to point out to you the seven things that are connected to your success as a Christian from the Scripture I mentioned above. I will list them first and then I will explain to you one by one and how you can apply to your personal life.

  1. Success is connected to inheritance.

  2. Success is connected to victory.

  3. Success is connected to influence.

  4. Success is connected to authority.

  5. Success is connected to glory.

  6. Success is connected to meditation.

  7. Success is connected to prosperity.

1. Success Is Connected To Inheritance.

The children of Israel were given the inheritance, the Promised Land. God wanted Joshua and the children of Israel to inherit the Promised Land. That land was promised by God to their forefathers Abraham, Issac and Jacob. Their success was to possess their inheritance.

As a Christian your success is to possess your inheritance in Christ. Jesus died, resurrected and ascended to heaven. He has left you an inheritance. And you will find that inheritance in the promises of God in the Bible.

For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

II Corinthians 1:20 NKJV

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that  is in the world through lust.

II Peter 1:2‭-‬4 NKJV

Your success in life is determined by your possession of the promises of God. By possessing the precious promises of God right here while you are alive on earth you will be able to partake the divine nature of the resurrected Christ.

2. Success Is Connected To Victory.

Joshua and the Israelites had to overcome their enemies in order to succeed in life. The greatest enemy we face today is fear. There are all kinds of fear that is prevailing in our society.

As a Christian your success is to overcome your fears and live in the victory of Christ.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

II Timothy 1:7 NKJV

Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

II Corinthians 2:14 NKJV

3. Success is connected to influence.

Joshua and the Israelites were to be the influencers for God. They were to be a nation whose God was the LORD Yahweh and they were to be the role model of God's people to the rest of the nations of the whole world.

Your success is your influence to the rest of the world for God.

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:8 NKJV

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

I Peter 2:9‭-‬10 NKJV

4. Success is connected to authority.

The LORD Yahweh gave them the authority to exercise over their present situation in order to bring His plan into fruition. Finally they understood that their success was dependent upon their willingness to exercise their God given authority over their undesirable nomadic lifestyle.

Your success demands your God given authority in action. Until and unless you want to use your spiritual authority over the spiritual laws of the land, air and water you will never be successful.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:35‭-‬39 NKJV

You are not a victim of circumstances but you are a victor over them. The love of Christ for you is your authority in life and that authority makes you a success.

5. Success is connected to glory.

God was always with them. He reassured Joshua that He will be with him as He was with Moses. The presence of God is the glory of God.

Your success is the glory of God in your life. He dwells in you 24×7. You and Jesus are inseparable if you have opened your heart for him. He does not come into your life as a tourist. He has permanently made you His dwelling place.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

Revelation 3:20 NKJV

But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

I Corinthians 6:17 NKJV

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

I Corinthians 6:19 NKJV

6. Success is connected to meditation.

God gave Joshua a simple formula for success, and that was to meditate God's word day and night. The word meditate in Hebrew is Hahgah.

Hebrew: הגה

Transliteration: hâgâh

Pronunciation: haw-gaw'

Definition: A primitive root (compare H1901); to murmur (in pleasure or anger); by implication to ponder: - {imagine} {meditate} {mourn} {mutter} {roar} X {sore} {speak} {study} {talk} utter.

KJV Usage: meditate (6x), mourn (4x), speak (4x), imagine (2x), study (2x), mutter (2x), utter (2x), roaring (1x), sore (1x), talk (1x).

Occurs: 25

In verses: 24

(Source: Strong's Concordance)

Your success in life is your ability to meditate, mourn, speak, imagine, mutter, utter, roar, sore and talk God's word day and night.

Only those who have the heart of flesh instead of the stone can meditate the word of God day and night.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Ezekiel 36:26 NKJV

clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that  is, of the heart.

II Corinthians 3:3 NKJV

7. Success is connected to prosperity.

God said to Joshua that he will make his way prosperous by following the instructions of the LORD Yahweh.

Prosperity is God's idea for you so that you won't be dependent on anyone but on Him alone.

Your success becomes evident by the level of your prosperity - spirit, soul, body, materially and financially.

Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

Romans 13:8 NKJV

The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.

Proverbs 10:22 NKJV

In conclusion, God wants everyone to be successful in life. He never made anyone a failure. But it's totally up to every individual whether they like to become successful or not.

His formula for success is available for every person who wants to use it.

So being able to possess what rightfully ours in Christ as a born again child of God, overcoming fear, influencing the world around us, exercising authority, living in the glory, meditating the word of God, and prospering in every area of life is what success is as a Christian.

Go be a success and God will be glorified by it.
